In the novel The Great Gatsby, the pursuit of the American dream is a major theme. When Jay Gatsby first appeared in the novel, he stretched out his hand towards a distant place, as if looking at a green light, but it was definitely out of reach. The green light represents Gatsby's dream And this novel's contemplation of the American dream. Gatsby gave everything he needed to get Daisy. From a low-level ordinary person, he became a rich man by his own efforts. The wealth he created was for Daisy. But at the end of the novel, when Gatsby died, Daisy didn't even come to his funeral. What about Gatsby's great wealth? In the end, all his efforts fell into disappointment under his own death and Daisy's desperation. His wealth will eventually dissipate slowly. What Gatsby has done in his life is limited to creating wealth and holding parties constantly, so who is the beneficiary of Gatsby's dream? It's not Gatsby or Daisy, but it's those old money like Tom who stand by and watch Gatsby's dreams and efforts.

4.In pursuing Daisy, Gatsby thought that he had succeeded, because at the end of the novel he was killed with a strong belief that Daisy would call him, and he thought he had succeeded or it will succeed soon until death. But in fact, Daisy didn't call him at all, and even at his funeral, Daisy didn't show up. So from a practical point of view, Gatsby is undoubtedly very failed.
