I think G atsby is the embodiment of the American dream. He came from a poor family and did not receive much higher education, but he still succeeded through his own efforts. The American dream is that one should have the chance to succeed no matter what one's background or education level. Gatsby can connect to the notion of American dream in that he has achieved success regardless of his original economic and social status. Gatsby's American dream is doomed to be impossible to realize, because he did not surpass the disadvantages brought by his social status and could not eliminate the discrimination of the upper class against those born in poverty . To begin with, although Gatsby has accumulated a great fortune, he could still not deny the discrimination that others hold on him due to his low social status.
