Part 2-- Elaine (Yuyao) Wang-- Expensive Love with Miss Siren

๐Ÿ’HelloOOo!!!➤➤ Welcome to Elaine's BLOooOG!

๐Ÿ“ŒLet me show you ๐Ÿค“ how the main tragic love๐Ÿ’” in the story links to the American Dream❗❗

⇩Daisy Buchanan๐Ÿ’‹(Miss SIREN)

๐Ÿ‘‰Daisy is Tom Buchanan’s wife๐Ÿ‘ฐ, but she is the lover of Gatsby as well๐Ÿ‘€. Her image is charming๐Ÿ’Ÿ and beautiful with an attractive voice๐ŸŽ™ which has a deep effect on man๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป. She is old money๐Ÿ’ฐ, and like others in this group, she is a little unacceptable with new money. At the same time, she has a deep obsession with money๐Ÿค‘ that she even gives up her love๐Ÿ™Š for it. Her perfection makes Gatsby chase for material desperately.

๐Ÿ˜ผJay Gatsby
๐Ÿ‘‰Gatsby used to be poor, but after falling in love๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š with Daisy, he uses criminal actions to become rich❗. Obviously, he obtains a lot of wealth๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ successfully, and he wants to buy Daisy's love with money❗❓❗❓. Green light๐ŸŸข is his distant dream๐Ÿ’ญ which is a symbol for him as the love for the perfect Daisy๐Ÿ’ฅ in his mind๐Ÿง .

From my perspective, the American Dream❗ uses media to let people believe that only material will bring happiness๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ to people which defines happiness superficially๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก. However, happiness should have different interpretations in everyone's heart, and everyone has the right to realize their own happiness. It is not only a kind of deprive of people’s rights๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ˜ฐ, but also causes damage to their life๐Ÿค•๐Ÿค•๐Ÿค• for forcing a diversified thing to be just material❎.

✋The American Dream uses media to let people believe that happiness will only be brought by material๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ’ฉ, like Daisy’s charm๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’‹ and money-worship๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿค‘ makes Gatsby only chase for materialism in his life๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜”. Nick once describes his charming cousin as: “… but there was an excitement in her voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget: a singing compulsion, a whispered ‘Listen’…” She is just like a siren๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ’‹ who seduces people with sweet singing๐ŸŽ™๐ŸŽ™, lets Gatsby create “green light” as an illusion that can only fit her perfection on the surface. However, this “perfection” is like the media in the American Dream, which has a gorgeous look but define happiness superficially as material and corrupt people’s mind. ๐Ÿ’ฃ

๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’–
๐Ÿ‘‰After meeting Daisy, Gatsby devotes himself to make more money๐Ÿ’ฐ, because it is the only way to get happiness— to get love from her๐Ÿ–ค. “‘They’re such beautiful shirts๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘•,’ she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. ‘It makes me sad๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ because I’ve never seen such—such beautiful shirts before.’”. Daisy is obsessed with material and money๐Ÿ˜, her tears seem to tell us that only these luxurious things๐Ÿ‘› can touch her heart๐Ÿ’“ Furthermore, like the media which deprives human rights๐Ÿ˜Ÿ, she also causes damage to others๐Ÿ˜ก.  Her desire for material changes Gatsby’s life, and makes him lose the moral baseline by the criminal acts❓❗❓❗ to become rich๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿคฏ. He chases for the “green light” for his whole life, which is an ideal illusion for him๐Ÿ’ญ, but it just makes him corrupt๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š
On the other hand, from my point of view, Daisy’s mind is also controlled❗❗❗. In her youth, she fell in love with poor Gatsby๐Ÿ’Ž, and even wanted to cancel her engagement with Tom๐Ÿ˜ฎ just because she received a letter๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ’Œ from Gatsby. Maybe her love for Gatsby is true somewhat, but the power of her old money thoughts keeps regulating her from alcohol or the marriage with a poor young man. “‘Gratulate me,’ she muttered๐Ÿท. ‘Never had a drink before but oh, how I do enjoy it๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’ฆ.’” It seems like the appearance of Gatsby is the change in her life. However, her mind is deeply shaped by the old money, so she obediently obeyed her inner old school and the worship towards money and chose to marry Tom. As a result, I think society and old money thoughts are just like the media in the American Dream, which control her mind and interfere with her decision.

➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢

From my point of view, I think Daisy achieves her American Dream๐Ÿ‘✔, which is just enjoying the life full of material๐Ÿ˜ฌ and money๐Ÿ˜‘. But ironically, Gatsby also has a luxury life, but he does not achieve his dream...๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ‘‰Although Gatsby uses the money to win Daisy’s heart, it is not what he really wants❗❗❗His longing for the love of “Daisy”๐Ÿ’— is his American Dream, not that “Daisy” who is crazy for material, but the “green light”๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

“No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.”

Sadly, he did wrong totally from the beginning.๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ He just wants to go back ๐Ÿ”™๐Ÿ”™to when he was a soldier๐Ÿ‘ฑ๐Ÿป‍♂️, and she was the young girl๐Ÿ‘ฑ๐Ÿป‍♀️ who fell in love with him purely๐Ÿ’ง. Such “Daisy” is an unreachable✨ and over beautified๐Ÿ’ซ “green light” that only flashed in his mind. And his efforts to get Daisy’s love in reality which controls him to obtain wealth through criminal☠️ or illegal actions๐Ÿ’€only keep him away from what he really wants.๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜ฃIn this case, he completely runs counter to realize his American Dream.๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข

๐Ÿ‘‰For Daisy, her American Dream is to have a rich material life.๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
“…half an hour later when we walked out of the room the pearls were around her neck and the incident was over.”

She has the opportunity to abandon this marriage of family property and fame๐Ÿ’ฉ to chase true pure love๐Ÿ’œ, but she gives up love for the wealth๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ that can give her perfect material life๐Ÿ˜ต. So, in her view, she achieves the happiness she wants and realizes her American dream.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ‘

➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢➢

However, in this tragic love, I think neither of them needs to change❗❗❗, except society. Like the media has no right to manipulate people’s definition of happiness, we also cannot judge others’ pursuit of love✅. I think maybe Gatsby was poor in the past๐Ÿ˜ทso the material does not occupy such a large part of his life๐Ÿ˜ฒ. So what he longs for is the pure love๐Ÿ’– on the spiritual level.

๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜

On the other hand, Daisy is old money๐Ÿ˜ˆ, she thinks she cannot live without beautiful clothes๐Ÿ‘’ and luxurious jewelry๐Ÿ’. Compared to a specific love for someone, she is more likely to pursue a material love for wealth๐Ÿ’. Furthermore, I also think her desire for the material is affected by society. Compared to her crazy for money๐Ÿ’ต๐Ÿ’ต๐Ÿ’ต, the more important reason for making her relationship with Gatsby broken๐Ÿ’” is her unacceptable towards new money in her old ideas๐Ÿ˜ต.  “But the rest offended her๐Ÿ’ข—and inarguably, because it wasn’t a gesture but an emotion๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข.” Gatsby successfully becomes rich✅ but his group cannot be changed❎, he is still new money, which is seen to be lowly in old money’s view๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ’ข๐Ÿ’ข. I will say that old money like Daisy and Tom have the persistence๐Ÿ’ช towards “The Perfect Money”๐Ÿ™Ž, they cannot accept any kind of wealth except family property๐Ÿ’ฉ, let alone Gatsby's money obtained through illegal means๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜จ. Her family and society๐Ÿ˜‘ make Daisy prejudice against Gatsby๐Ÿ˜ฃ and destroy his American Dream๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ๐Ÿ’ฃ. If the society can change, for example, erase the “offended” feeling between old and new money✂✂✂, or reduce Daisy’s desire for material✂✂✂, Gatsby’s dream about getting pure love๐Ÿ’Ž from Daisy may come true๐Ÿ˜”However, fate makes these two unsuitable people meet๐Ÿ˜ˆ, and the wrong but crazy infatuation๐Ÿ‘ซ with each other caused such a sad ending๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”.

➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣➣

"The Perfect Body"๐Ÿ‘™ from the media of Victoria’s Secret fits with "The Perfect Daisy"๐Ÿ’š in Gatsby's heart and "The Perfect Money"๐Ÿ’Ž for Daisy, which is gorgeous๐Ÿ”ฅ but one-sided and superficial๐ŸŒš๐ŸŒš๐ŸŒš.

The model๐Ÿ‘ฉ who has been processed with graphics software defines what beauty looks like for the public. Daisy's love๐Ÿ’ฉ also makes Gatsby pursue material desperately๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜ค. And the old money's persistence of the family money and the prejudice towards new money also affect Daisy to not accept Gatsby. All three of them use undeniable perfection๐Ÿ’ฅ to give wrong notions to people forcibly๐Ÿ‘Ž, and also cause damage to them as well๐Ÿ™€. Those who lose themselves๐Ÿ™‰๐Ÿ™‰ because of the control of the advertisements may take unhealthy measures such as dieting๐Ÿฅ— in order to lose weight. Gatsby corrupts his mind to do some criminal actions๐Ÿ‘ฎ to become rich๐Ÿ’ต to buy love from Daisy๐Ÿ’. And Daisy gives up Gatsby๐Ÿ’ฆ, and stays with Tom๐Ÿ˜’ although he is cheating on her๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ’ฉ.  Whether it is Victoria ’s Secret advertisement๐Ÿ‘™, Daisy๐Ÿ’Ž, or the persistence from old money๐Ÿ”’, they are just like the American dream, which is a kind of control and hurt over others.๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ

I commented on Meredith's Part2!!

Comments

  1. (Meredith’s personal comments for Elaine’s part2)
    Hiiiiii Elaineeee!!!
This is your humorous friend + nice roommate, Mer!!! Not moo!!!

To be honest, this is one of the most amazing blogs I have ever seen!!! You really did a great job!!! Maybe you can try to design blogs for others in the future!!! LOLLLLL

I really like your Macaroon colors which matches the theme of “tragic love” very well. I like your layout that separating each paragraph, adding many pictures and GIFs to make the description more vivid. And the most important is that you used highlighter to make your main ideas outstanding, which helps me catch your main points and focus on them. You added enough quotations as proof, that is more convictive!!! WOW!!! My favorite is your Who Needs To Change Part, it is fantastic!!! I like your “we also cannot judge others’ pursuit of love”, it’s true and I can’t agree more!!!! And the analysis of Daisy’s complex feeling to Gatsby is accurate and deep enough, which inspires me a lot.

But nothing is perfect, you can be more careful on the quotation about Daisy— “‘It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such—such beautiful shirts before.’”. I don’t think that Daisy would cry for beautiful shirts, and this is only an excuse for her tears because she doesn’t want to show her real thoughts to Gatsby, maybe she cries for being stressed about her relationships with Gatsby and Nick, maybe for recalling her happy memories with Gatsby 5 years ago…. but not for beautiful shirts.

    Tips:
Next time, you can use more emoji, it will add more fun in your wonderful blog!!! And in your Media Part, I think you can make the connection more clear.
Btw, I love your media piece soooo much!!!๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป Hhhhhhh

Overall, this is a successful blog!!! WOWOWOWOWOW
