PART 2-- Darius(Dapeng) Zhao-- The Character Analysis Connects the American Dream

πŸ’«πŸ’«πŸ’«Hi, Here is Darius!

Myrtle is an energeticπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ woman who wants to pursue the American DreamShe is very poor😿 and she has a low education.πŸ€–
Tom looked down on the poor but regarded the poor woman as a tool πŸ‘ΏπŸ‘ΏπŸ‘Ώ to satisfy his desires.
Nick also is a man who has an American Dream but he is a person with family background and knowledge background.

American Dream creates a beautiful visionπŸŒ…πŸŒ…πŸŒ… for people to lead them to work hard for getting a better future. That’s an attractive way to help people to work harder. But things did not❌❌ work. The American Dream also makes corruption☠️☠️☠️. This is caused by inequality between people.

Myrtle and Nick do have the American Dream so they try their best to make more moneyπŸ’΅πŸ’΅πŸ’΅πŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ. Myrtle’s way to get money is very corrupt, although their goals are the same. She chose to pursue Tom and wanted to achieve her American dream by using Tom’s money. But Tom just regarded Myrtle as a toyπŸ€–πŸ€–πŸ€–, and he did not give the poor respect, he just used them to satisfy his desires. This is no coincidence these poor people have no idea about how to earn enough money in a normal wayπŸ‘»πŸ‘»πŸ‘». They are different from these people who have the knowledge or some background like Nick. He graduated from Yale University. Naturally, he has a knowledge reserve beyond ordinary people. At the same time, based on his family background, one of his cousins married Old money--Tom. Therefore, although he chose not to rely on his family, His career still benefits from his family.

Besides, these poor people are not respected by the rich because from "‘Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!’ shouted Mrs. Wilson. ‘I’ll say it whenever I want to! Daisy! Dai——’ Making a short deft movement Tom Buchanan broke her nose with his open hand. ", it can be seen that Tom did not even tell Myrtle that he already has a wife. Just like this their dreams are broken❌❌❌ by the rich again and again, and the rich just care about their own desire and benefit, so they use their background easily to break the American dream of the poor, they don’t even give the poor respect.

In such an unfair ⚖️⚖️⚖️society, these poor people have no way out, let alone whether they can realize the American dream. They can't even get the most basic respect and fairness, and they can't turn over from the bottom of society. Tom has no respect for Myrtle. As a tool for Tom, she can never marry Tom to realize her American dream.

Society should be responsible for this tragedy. What should be changed most is not❌ one single person, but the concept of the whole society. Equality is not just talked about, it is to be established on the basis of respect. The entire society only pursues the American Dream without paying attention to equality. Only the American dream based on equality can be a positive dream, otherwise, it will be a social disaster.

Tom ’s discrimination against the poor is a common phenomenon of Old money in society. Just like in the “Green Book”πŸ“—πŸ“—πŸ“—, white people generally discriminate against black people. Even if he is a very good musician, white people mostly regard him as a pastime tool😱. Fortunately, there is less and less discrimination in society today. I hope that one day, discrimination can be completely eliminated and a beautiful world can be given to all.

I comment on Alisa's P2.

  1. Hi, darius. I'm Steve. I think you make a good job that you analyze the character and how American Dream cheat the poor. The poor don't have good family background and education, so they know nothing about how to make money. They don't have money to start make money, either. But the American Dream told them that they can achieve their dream by effort, so they chose the wrong way and become the tool for entertainment. It's not fair. Also, you used a quotation to proof how Myrtle's American Dream break.
But I don't think there's relation between unfair and the American Dream, old sport. If the American Dream doesn't exist, this will happened as well. What's more, the way Tom treat Myrtle is not racial discrimination. I admit that tom have racial discrimination, but not to the poor, he just looks down upon the poor and feels them easy to control.
Also, if you list the personility instead of a long paragraph and say the society needs to change obviously your blog will be better, although it is good, old sport.
