Part 2-- Harrison(Yiyang) Gao

 Hi, This is Harrison ( ̄︶ ̄)↗

1: Tom is an old money; he is a playboy to cheating women to be his mistress using his status and power—especially money. He is also haughty as a high-status old money to look down upon people of new money and no money. As well, he is a rude man who is also pretend to have knowledge to chat with others.  φ(* ̄0 ̄)
2: American always searching for new, which could be regard as find another opportunity of being success. The society always believe that it is the opportunity for the youth and the poor to getting rich, and they persuade the public to pursue money and spend money. But, in fact, that’s is just the excuse of the old moneys to make profits have rarely real meaning. So the American dream could be nothing but the meaning of the capitalist to make                                                            people work harder and spend more money-- so they can benefit                                                            more from them. 🙄

3: Tom, as an old money, he has the status as his biggest brand. It is ironically that all his new is to having new woman👩 and he left his new wife and new born daughter, trys new way to enjoy his life. He did not even use the “new” or any excuses, only his status is the greatest brand to attract and cheating women to be his mistress. He is the person at the top of American society, but ironically, he rarely has American dream—because he already has plenty of resources to be free, make opportunity and have enough money. So, it proved that the American is nothing but an excuse, which is the people with no money and lack of resources would take it as a mental support. But it is also ironic that their support is created by the group who really controlled them to let them to trust something and also benefit from it. Further, for tom, he also broke the American dream for others, he stole Willison’s wife, which prevent Willison to get opportunity to live in a happy life. So, he could be a hard evidence that American dream if just for the poor to comfort themselves.

4: As the old money, what he did is old fashioned, so there is no doubt the American dream could never achieve, in fact, Tom never have American dream since he has the power and is opposite to the American dream. He belongs to the class that settle the American dream and use it to cheating the public and get money, who he would never😒 achieve the lie created by themselves.

5: For this, Tom should change most, who cannot accept the new things, it represented that them, the old money should have some changes. Sometimes it is them who control the society, that means the opportunity was reduced by them. which should change and give the opportunity back.

6: The old money is the biggest and most popular brand for Tom to attract women to follow him and get mistress from that. He really like the company nowadays, who use the brands to attract people’s eyes and benefit from that, but it is too late to realize their purpose is just cheating and get benefit. Tom’s behavior is to only get benefit and spend only his background, like the companies benefit from its brands. Like the coke use its famous brand and power to get more market, Ubisoft use their famous IP Assassin’s Creed to cheating more gamer to buy new games. That is the Brand Effects, which let the famous thing get more focus even though they would not so well as a unknown but very good thing.

  1. Hi bro,
This is your friend Connor. This is an interesting blog that can attach my whole attention to read it. Through your blog, I have a deeper understanding of the American Dream.

    1. The wonderful job:
You have a strong opinion, which can help me think about this article with more interest. And you have a deep understanding of the great Gatsby characters in this book. I can get more understanding of the characters through your blog. And you connect the American Dream through Coca-Cola and Assassin's Creed ads, making this view closer to life and easy to understand. At the same time, the design of this blog is also very good, it can attract people's interest but not distract people's attention.

    2. Problem:
I think the logic of the article is a little messy. As a reader, this article is not very clear and let people know what each paragraph is talking about. And I think you need a title to express your blog opinion.

    3. Improve:
I think you need to express each point of paragraph more clearly so that readers can get your point directly. For the example of advertising, I think it needs a little more explanation about the "brand effect".
